Roof safety equipment — Equipment for working safely on sandwich panel, metal sheet and rooflight roofs: lifelines to clip on to and fall-protection mesh to protect rooflights, which are not walkable.

Safety products

Roof lifeline: portable 2 to 20 m horizontal line for two users, with ratchet tensioner. EN 795:2012 class B.
Rooflight fall protection: safety mesh fixed over the translucent sheets to prevent falls through them.

Before going up on a roof

Identify fragile areas: rooflights, skylights and fibre-cement sheets cannot take a person’s weight.
Protect those areas with fall-protection mesh or guardrails.
Always work clipped to a lifeline with a harness and an energy-absorbing lanyard.
Check the equipment before each use and train whoever is going to use it.

Frequently asked questions about roof safety

Is a lifeline compulsory on a roof?

Where there is a risk of falling from height, health and safety rules require collective protection or, if that is not possible, personal equipment such as a lifeline with a harness.

Can you walk on rooflights?

No. Translucent sheets and skylight domes are not walkable: they must be protected with mesh or fenced off.
