Description: RG1011 – Side Flashing

The RG1011 is a side flashing for slate grey tile-effect sandwich panels. It closes the free side edge of the roof slope: it covers the last rib of the panel and runs down the edge to the wall, so the insulation is protected from rain, wind and sun.

It comes in the same colour as the tile-effect panel, so the flashing goes unnoticed and the roof keeps its tiled look.

How to install it

  1. First fit all the panels of the slope and check that the last one is properly aligned.
  2. Start fitting the flashing at the eaves and work up towards the ridge, so each upper piece laps over the one below and water cannot get into the overlap.
  3. Overlap the pieces by about 10 cm and seal the overlap with a bead of sealant or with butyl tape.
  4. Fix the top leg to the crown of the rib and the vertical leg to the panel edge or wall with flashing screws every 30–50 cm.

Installation tips

  • If the edge of the slope is not straight, correct it before fixing: the flashing shows up any deviation.
  • In windy areas, bring the screws closer, to about 30 cm, at the corners and ends of the slope.
  • Cut the sheet with snips or a fine-tooth saw, never with an angle grinder: the sparks burn the paint and the sheet ends up rusting.

How many pieces do you need?

Measure the total length of the joint you need to cover, in metres. Each piece is 3 m long and overlaps the next one by about 10 cm, so it covers about 2.9 m. Divide the length by 2.9 and round up. For example, for 12 m you need 12 ÷ 2.9 = 4.1, that is, 5 pieces.

Made-to-measure flashings

If your project needs a different girth, another colour or a special fold, we make the flashing to measure. Send us a sketch with the dimensions and we will prepare a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the side flashing and the side wall flashing?

The side flashing is used when the edge of the roof is free, open to the air. The side wall flashing is used when the slope ends against a higher wall and the joint with the wall has to be sealed.

Do I need a side flashing if the panel is already well fixed?

Yes. At the edge of the panel the insulation is exposed and the last rib is open. Without a flashing, water, wind and insects get in, and the foam deteriorates in the sun.
