Description: Sandwich Panel Screw – Tubes/Purlins

Self-drilling screw for fixing sandwich panels to steel purlins and tubes up to 6 mm thick. It has two threads: the lower one (5.5 mm) drills and taps into the purlin, and the upper one (6.3 mm), just under the head, grips the outer sheet of the panel and acts as a stop, so the panel is not crushed when tightening.

How to install it

  1. Mark the position of the purlins on the panel so you screw right above them.
  2. On roofs, place the screw on the crown of the rib; on façades, in the joint area specified by the panel manufacturer.
  3. Drive the screw square to the panel with a variable-speed screwdriver at 1,000–1,500 rpm, without hammer action.
  4. Stop when the upper thread has gripped the sheet and the washer is snug, without crushing it.

Tips

  • Use a screwdriver with a depth stop or clutch: overtightening deforms the sheet and spoils the washer seal.
  • The screw must pass through the purlin and protrude at least three threads below it.
  • Clear metal swarf off the panel at the end of the day: if left on it, it rusts and stains the sheet.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it have two threads?

The lower thread fixes the screw to the purlin and the upper one grips the outer sheet of the panel. This holds the panel firmly without the head crushing it.

Is it suitable for thick beams?

No. This screw is for purlins and sections up to 6 mm. For I-beams and thicker sections, use the I-beam screw, which has a longer drill point.
